We went this based on Google recommendation! A very nice cafe and bar with amazing breakfast options! The ambience is very nice and antique! Food was great! Coffee was amazing. Definitely will recommend this place, in case you are looking for option for breakfast or drinks in the evening! The place is quiet happening! Payment has to be made in Cash. And I think because of shortage of staff it took a while to get the order and bill!

(Last visited 1/23/2023.) It's my first time in Germany and I'm in Hamburg on business! So on my first night I wandered around the section of city near the Crown Plaza to discover a bit of a nice downtown area that was further away from the REAL downtown. Lol. I was looking for some authentic German food and I certainly found it. Here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place felt very European. Makes sense since I'm deep in Europe. Lol. The lights were dim, there were random chandeliers, an awkward dining space that was set 4 feet below the rest of the restaurant near the front, just nice, cozy and a bit cramped. Lol. In the "main" dining room there was a bar of sorts and glass case containing cold wines and delicious looking desserts. Service: I can't remember the name of the gentlemen who took care of me, but he was so kind, so sweet, caring and helpful. He clearly could tell I wasn't from around there so he made sure to give me tips and tricks on navigating the area. Food: I tried the broccoli soup which is made with cream topping and served with herb bread. This wasn't like what I was used to, but it was still great! It was a lot less salty then what I've had in the past and it felt more natural. The herb bread was fine, good for sopping up soup your spoon couldn't reach. As for my entree I went with the schnitzel of course! How could I not? Here at Cafe Uhrlaub they offer the "breaded schnitzel" which is a thin piece of pork, pounded thin, breaded, seasoned then fried to perfection. It was also served with fried potatoes and a side salad. I really enjoyed the novelty of it. It's not something I would just go and order because I'm craving it, but it was great to try it in its origin! Value: CASH ONLY. Being from the U.S. and having the euro be damn-near equal to the dollar makes things "feel" just a bit cheaper here than back home. My soup was 7.90€ and my schnitzel was 16.90€. Not too bad, but not cheap either. In conclusion, I really liked this place! It was cute, felt natural, not like a tourist trap and I feel represented Germany 100%! Check this place out if you get the chance!

An unexpected gem! Lovely decorations, good advice not to order two dishes, for would have been way too much food AND a GREAT main course dish! Was the highlight of my day to eat there after a long distance traveling.

Cute authentic German bar/restaurant. It has sitting outside, in front, indoor and also a back patio. Came here on a Tuesday night, capacity was around 20% full. Service is very friendly. You can get a schnitzel and a beer for under 15€. Schnitzel’s taste was average, a little crispier of what you would find in the rest of Germany, not sure if that’s Hamburg’s style of cooking for schnitzel.

Lovely brunch. As a UK expat I loved the English breakfast. It came with cornflakes too which was a hilarious and fun addition. Schnitzel also so good and staff were kind and attentive. Will come by next time in Hamburg!
